Artwork > Morning Light Barrier

Exhibited in "Reflecting on Olana as Framed Viewed from Catwalk's Viewshed", Catwalk Institute, Catskill, NY

Referencing the crepuscular rays in Frederic Church’s painting “The Afterglow”, this work explores the duality in Church’s painting between the transient nature of sunsets/dying light and the desire to contain or possess such fleeting phenomena. The sewn light shafts in Torrey’s piece interact with the surrounding landscape to mimic this naturally occurring display in a way that is both inherently handmade and contained.
