Started in 2005, the Q.O.V. Project is a national campaign to create quilts to cover gas pumps and station architecture throughout the country. This project is modelled after the Quilts of Valor Foundation (a national campaign to make quilts for every wounded serviceman) and references quilting's long history of political and social discourse, i.e. WWII era political textiles that subversively link the domestic with the political. Q.O.V. Project reverses this propagandistic strategy, bringing the domestic to the public. The textile becomes a metaphor for the physical act of protecting the commodity of oil.
